"Lecture Series by ASEAN and Chinese Ambassadors" Held in GXNU

On the morning of December 12, ASEAN-China Center held the 9th session of the "Lecture Series by ASEAN and Chinese Ambassadors" at the conference hall of Tianjiabing Education Building of GXNU. Ambassador Elizabeth, Co-Chairperson of 7th Joint Council of ASEAN-China Center and Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN, came to GXNU to make a speech and together with other council members, had close interaction with the students on the site. Over 300 students from GXNU, Guilin University of Electronic Technology, Guilin University of Technology and Guilin Tourism University attended this event. These students were from different countries, including China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. This event was hosted by Luo Yaoguang, Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange of Guangxi Department of Education.


Deputy mayor Lan Yan made a welcoming speech first. She pointed out that Guilin Municipal Government had always valued exchange and cooperation with ASEAN. She suggested that the institutions of higher education in Guilin further friendly exchange with those in ASEAN. In her speech, Secretary General Yang Xiuping mentioned that the "Lecture Series by ASEAN and Chinese Ambassadors" was one of the primal projects of the ASEAN-China Center, aiming to enrich the public's knowledge of China and ASEAN and China-ASEAN relation and promote mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples, especially between the young. After that, Ambassador Elizabeth Buensuceso made a speech on "China-ASEAN relation and 20th ASEAN-China Summit." She encouraged the young people in China and ASEAN to further exchange and learn from each other and to enhance mutual understanding and trust for a deepened and sustained bilateral relation.


Later, the students present raised questions actively on the potential and prospect of cooperation between universities in Guilin and in ASEAN in education and scientific research and the details of demand in ASEAN job markets. Their questions were addressed respectively by Ambassador Elizabeth Buensuceso, Jiang Qin (Chargé d' Affairs of China's Mission to ASEAN), Mr. Novicio (Deputy Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN), Mr. Chilman Arisman (Permanent Representative of Indonesia to ASEAN), Mr. Min Lwin (Permanent Representative of Myanmar to ASEAN), Ms. Phasporn Sangasubana (Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN) and Mr. Nguyen Hoanh Nam (Permanent Representative of Vietnam to ASEAN). The heated discussion proved a great success.


Before the formal event of lecture, Deputy Mayor Lan Yan, Vice President of GXNU Li Jia Yong, Gu Tianlong (President of Guilin University of Electronic Technology), Zhou Guoqing (Vice President of Guilin University of Technology) and Lin Yejiang (Deputy Secretary-General of Guilin Tourism University) had an informal discussion. After the lecture, accompanied by personnel in charge of GXNU, the guests visited the GXNU History Museum to view GXNU history and achievements.
