On April 1, 2018, the 2018 “Young Talent Cultural Exchange Between Guilin and Hong Kong” Project was formally launched in GXNU, co-sponsored by Youth League Committee of GXNU and Hong Kong Commission on Youth, aiming to further promote the educational exchange and cooperation between Guangxi and Hong Kong, especially training of young talent in the two places.
On the first day of the project, the students from Guilin and Hong Kong attended a special lecture, traditional ethnic sporting events and sporting game for fun, to experience the charm of culture together. On the morning of April 1, Jin Zhen, creator of Guilin “Han Origin” Experiencing Han Culture Center and also supervisor of GXNU Art Troupe, delivered a speech on “Traditional Chinese Culture—Han Costume Culture,” to have the students learn about the charm of Han costume. The lecture covered the concept, feature, type, function aspects of Han costume. Through on-site Han costume presentation, she explained the unique charm of Han costume and had the youth delegation learn about the peculiar and profound ethnic culture.
In the interaction section, the young students from Hong Kong raised questions actively and tried Han costumes on the stage to learn about the profoundness of Han costume culture and understand more about traditional Chinese culture. After the lecture, Ou Zhiming, a Hong Kong young student, said, “In Hong Kong, we seldom have an opportunity to learn about Han costume and the related culture. We can see costumes on TV, but won’t know their dynasties and functions. This lecture is very fantastic and interesting.”
On the afternoon of April 1, the students from Guilin and Hong Kong had a traditional folk sporting game and basketball game on Yucai Campus of GXNU. In the spirit of “Friendship first and competition second,” the students from the two places enjoyed the events together, playing board-shoe walking and tug-of-war games in pairs. The basketball game turned out to be a well-matched game, and won much applause from the spectators.
This year marked the fourth year since the initiation of the “Young Talent Cultural Exchange Between Guilin and Hong Kong” project. The project aims to promote the contact and exchange between the students from Guilin and Hong Kong and the friendship between the two places, through having students from Hong Kong learn traditional culture, teach voluntarily, have field study and watch art performance, and having students from Guilin visit Hong Kong universities and interact with the teachers and students in Hong Kong.
