According to the new messages posted by Clarivate Analytics Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database on 11 May, 21 academic papers written by scholars from Guangxi Normal University have been selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers in May. This is better than the 19 papers selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers in March of this year. 

Among the 21 papers, 8 of them pertain to physics, 6 of them pertain to chemistry, 4 of them pertain to engineering science, 2 of them pertain to computer science and one is about material science, in accordance with the division of ESI research field. 

According to the SCI Expanded database, 11 of the 21 papers mention GXNU in author's address, of which 5 papers pertain to chemistry, 4 papers pertain to engineering science, 1 pertain to physics and 1 pertain to material science. 

The publication date of GXNU's 21 papers range from 1 January 2008 to 28 February 2018. Two of the papers were published in 2010, 1 was published in 2011 and another was published in 2012, 3 were published in 2013, 5 were published in 2014, 2 were published in 2015, 3 were published in 2016 and 4 were published in 2017. 

Clarivate Analytics founded ESI to be a kind of analytical database that would collect and analyze literature and references indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection over a 10-year period. The Web of Science Core Collection includes the SCI Expanded (SCIE) and the Science Citation Index (SSCI) and has been a source of good quality academic literature and citing references bibliographies for many years. 

It important to know that an ESI Highly Cited Paper is a type of paper whose citation frequency by SCIE/SSCI is the top 1% of all the cited papers in the world in the last ten years. It applies to all subjects, and the ESI database is usually upgraded every two months.
