On September 12, the new library on Yanshan campus was opened for the first time. Early at 8 in the morning, the new library started to receive visitors. At the gate on the second floor of the library, some students were getting souvenirs that were available for the first 100 visitors, while others were lining up to sign their names before getting in. Everything was quite orderly, and everyone looked very excited.  

The first five visitors were students from College of Liberal Arts. They lived together in one dorm and learned via the library’s official WeChat account that the new library would be opened on September 12. Then, they were so thrilled by the news and decided to be of the first batch of visitors, so they came to line up in front of the library gate at 5:50 a.m. They felt so excited and happy that they could study in the new and well-equipped library. A student from College of Music preparing for her postgraduate entrance examination said, “I could have prepared for the exam in the classroom of my college’s teaching building, but I had been disturbed by the noise of the musical instruments in the building. The old library has limited number of seats, so I was worried that the new library would have the same problem. But in fact, the new library has plenty seats. So, I don’t need to worry about where to find a place for preparing my exam!” Some students also brought their laptops, iPads and other electronic devices. With the wifi in the new library, they could access the Internet and search for the materials they needed. Many other students were walking along the bookshelves, looking for and reading books.

The trial operation of the new library will last for one month. During this period, the library will be opened between 8:00 and 21: 50 from Monday to Sunday. The faculty and students have been asked to access the library, and borrow and return books with their campus cards. During this period, the university will also collect recommendations from the users for further improvement so as to better prepare for its formal opening.
