During the period of prevention and control against COVID-19, the Guilin municipal government was very concerned about the health of GXNU’s international students and foreign teachers. Due to the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 and the shortage of face masks, teachers and students residing on campus were faced with the difficult situation of not having enough masks when they had to go out.

 On receiving the message asking for the government’s support in providing face masks from CICE, GXNU, Lan Yan, the Vice Mayor, stated that providing international friends who were away from their home countries with the necessary support was of paramount importance to the government. Under the urgent orders of the Vice Mayor, the relevant staff of the leading group on novel coronavirus prevention and control took action immediately and made great effort to provide international students with 200 masks. Sun Hongqing, Vice Secretary of Guilin municipal government and also the person in charge of the matter, said that currently domestic masks were mainly being used for the virus-stricken area in and around Wuhan, and the masks used in Guilin were charitable donations which were bought overseas. Domestic production will be gradually resumed over a period of time and the supply of masks is sure to meet demand. He also asked the relevant authorities of GXNU to extend Guilin municipal government’s greetings to foreign teachers and international students. The government would take follow-up actions and would allocate resources in a responsible manner, depending on the needs of those who need these resources the most.
